Kuali Financial System’s design is based upon the proven functionality of Indiana University’s Financial Information System (FIS) and Electronic Procurement and Invoicing Center (EPIC).

Kuali Coeus (KC) is a comprehensive suite of functionality that will serve the needs of Indiana University's Office of Research Administration staff, unit and departmental staff, and research faculty to facilitate and catalyze enhanced research productivity.

Together, Kuali Financial System (KFS) and Kuali Coeus (KC) Projects will install an
all-inclusive and integrated suite of software for the research and financial management needs of Indiana University.



The development and implementation of large-scale ERP administrative systems like Kuali Financial Systems (KFS) and Kuali Coeus (KC) for Research Administration is a complex undertaking. During the early development of KFS and KC, certain architecture and technology principles were recognized as having significant benefits. Specifically, the use of components, like Workflow/Routing and Identity and Access Management, were identified as tools that provide a common integration and implementation infrastructure.

Kuali Rice represents the common middleware components that simplify the development, implementation and maintenance of all Kuali Applications. KFS and KC rely upon Kuali Rice to link the two communities.
